The Autonomous Province of Bolzano promotes digital innovation in public services to offer citizens, businesses and organizations an increasingly simple, accessible and effective experience. Among its digital tools is the Interreg portal, the reference point for consulting and managing calls and territorial cooperation programs funded by the European Union.
Making information more accessible through Artificial Intelligence
Consulting European funding calls and technical documentation can require time and specific expertise. The large number of available documents often makes it difficult to quickly find the relevant information.
To improve the browsing experience and simplify access to content, the Autonomous Province of Bolzano chose Ydea, Hoverture Digital Hub, to design and develop a conversational assistant based on Generative Artificial Intelligence, capable of guiding users in their search for information through natural interaction.
The Challenge
The Interreg portal holds a large body of documentation related to European funding calls, regulations and financing opportunities.
The goal was to offer users a tool able to:
- simplify the search for information;
- provide fast, relevant answers without requiring manual consultation of numerous documents;
- support an international audience through a multilingual experience;
- improve content accessibility and the quality of the digital service.
The Solution
Starting from a User-Centered Design approach, Hoverture Digital Hub designed and developed an intelligent conversational assistant integrated into the Interreg portal.
The solution leverages the capabilities of Generative AI and Large Language Models (LLMs) to understand user requests and generate contextual, coherent answers based exclusively on information from the official documentation, retrieved through an Information Retrieval (IR) engine.
Key features of the solution include:
- conversational assistance for consulting calls and documentation;
- answers generated from the portal’s official sources;
- conversations in Italian, English, and German;
- automatic detection of the user’s language;
- a response tone of voice optimized for clarity, reliability, and consistency with institutional communication.
The Results
The conversational assistant made the Interreg portal more intuitive and accessible, turning the search for information into a simple, natural experience.
The solution made it possible to:
- facilitate access to content related to European funding calls and cooperation funds;
- improve the browsing experience through conversational interaction;
- offer immediate support in three languages;
- enhance the value of the existing documentation through Generative Artificial Intelligence;
- increase the accessibility of information without modifying the portal’s official content.
